A japanese version of the tale with an evil wizard, a princess, the genie and of course no songs what so ever... Much more action and the characters are more complex and well developed.
[B.E.] Heroine looks like a grown-up Heidi. Wandering scenes are highly reminiscent of Marco. Besides being based on both the Andersen and Grimm versions, and being very different from the usual version of the story, this film also borrows from other folktales and a bit from the story of Joan of Arc. Animation and art directing are average, nothing more. Contrary to what the contributor above wrote, this film does have several musical numbers. The Russian animated version is a much better film, and told in a less realistic fashion well suited to the story.
